I would like to acknowledge that I primarily live and work on the traditional, unceded homelands of the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations. Many other tribes called this area, also known now as Chicago, home. I would also like to acknowledge the way that this place has been impacted not only by settler-colonization, but also by the stolen labor of Black people who were forcibly displaced from their own lands. I do this acknowledgement to practice gratitude for the land that nourishes us and for the original and current land defenders, and to build awareness of long-standing history of colonialism and slavery and our present participation in these systems, so that we may be more effective in our work to dismantle them.
